Winston Salem, NC – Less than a month after the Atlanta Silverbacks signed four new players, they have struck again gaining the young talent of forward Jerson Monteiro.
After earning many accolades and achievements at University of Alabama Birmingham, Jerson was selected 8th overall in the 2007 MLS Superdraft. Jerson continued his MLS career as he progressed from the Chicago Fire to DC United. Jerson was a great attribute to these MLS teams due to his role as a well-rounded forward that could provide speed and skill to his team’s attack. With his eye on an eventual transfer to Europe, Jerson entered this preseason with the goal of finding a team that would provide the opportunity for a consistent starting position and a strong offensive line-up. After spending pre-season time with DC United, Jerson finally decided that an opportunity to start for Atlanta was just the situation he had been looking forward to.
A spokesperson from MLF Sports, Jerson’s Soccer Agency, stated that “Jerson is ready for the opportunity and embracing the challenge to be part of the starting 11 with the Silverbacks, a team vying for the USL-1 Championship in 2008.”
With preseason underway, the Atlanta Silverbacks are looking quite strong and are anxious for their season opener against the Carolina RailHawks. The game is scheduled for Saturday, April 19th at 7:55 p.m. The Silverbacks have the advantage of starting the season off with three home games in a row. With the Silverbacks fan support increasing in the Atlanta area, breaking attendance records this year is truly plausible.
