MLF midfielder Stephen Armstrong and the Charleston Battery will be moving on to the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Championship after their stunning victory over the Seattle Sounders Tuesday night. Although the match was tied 1-1 through regulation, the Battery were able to secure a championship berth after they defeated the Sounders in penalty kicks 4-3. As both teams prepared to take their shots, nerves were undoubtedly tense, as each team had an opportunity to reach the US Open Cup Championship for the first time in their history. The tension was broken, however, after Stephen Armstrong sent a beautiful shot into the back of the net to score the first of the Battery’s four overtime goals. Charleston must now ready itself to face the MLS 2007 Regular Season Champion DC United, led by star forward Luciano Emilio. The final, which will be hosted by the United, is to be played on September 3rd, and promises to be a thrilling match-up as both teams vie for the Championship title.
